The big showdown between Canadian champion Ryan Rozicki (9-0-0, 9KOs) of Sydney Forks and Shawn Miller (18-4-1, 7KOs) of Troy, New York, just got even bigger. When the men meet at Centre 200 on May 18, they will now be competing for the WBC International Silver cruiserweight championship.

By winning this version of the famous green belt, the victor joins the ranks of future and former world champions, including the likes of Pablo Cesar Cano (32-7-1, 22KOs), Jhonny Gonzalez (66-11-0, 54KOs), and Guillermo Rigondeaux (18-1-0, 12KOs).

Promoter Daniel Otter is ecstatic. “This is a huge opportunity for Ryan. It’s the next logical step in his progression through the ranks.

When you wear the WBC International Silver belt, you’re on the global boxing radar. You’re knocking at the door of the world champion. I’m really pleased he gets a crack at this title at home in Cape Breton.”

Rozicki is more focused on Miller than what belt is at stake. “For me, nothing has changed. The fight is still against Miller.

“He continues to be my one and only focus. I’m glad the fight is getting the international recognition it deserves, but my attention is squarely on the guy standing in front of me on May 18. All I think about is punching through him to another win.”

Miller has seen this all before, previously fighting for international championships in three different countries. “It’s great that the fight is getting the attention it deserves.
